I painted this in a July 1996 seminar with Charles Johnson. Victorian designs are some of my favorites and this box is no exception. As with all of the seminars I’ve taken with Charles, this one was a delight. Here he forms the heart shape with his well-known roses. His wonderful method of marbleizing is shown on the front of the box. This is a lovely burgundy color, but I realize on some screens it appears to be red, the painted lining is really a soft mauve that harmonizes with the burgundy, but on my screen it looks as if it’s shocking pink!
